White Chicks beats my blues away everytime!

Another all-time favorite flick is White Chicks (2004). With memorable lines shared with my family countless times such as “Squeeze me?”‘ “Hasta la vista Schwarzenegro!”, “I’m gonna have a BF!” and who could forget the hilarious “Dear Mister Royal Hampton, I am a white woman, in America”. Yup so true we enjoy watching flicks be it in a theatre or at home (complete with snacks and lights off scenarios).

Director Shawn Wayans (Scary Movie) and brother Marlon Wayans are FBI agents disguised as heiress sisters in an attempt to beat the real socialite’s would be kidnapper. The twist starts when upon fetching the real socialite sisters from the airport a road mishap occured leaving the FBI agents no choice but to “whiten” themselves  so to speak.

The prosthetics is simply amazing and the cleverly injected punchlines runs from start to finish! Its not just a chick flick because guys definitely can relate and laugh along. Oh, I also liked their version of “A Thousand Miles” which I sing along and laugh to my heart’s content!

Komikon Summer 2009

komikon_summer_fiesta_teaser_by_komikon

After many years..eons, I decided to again attend a Comics Convention. What kept me from going, collecting, etc. was the fact that I got busy with work and got back to school for my second course plus cash flow is not above average.

Going to these great conventions require a lot of self-control even if you are not a hardcore comic collector or fan. Why? Because everyone can relate to any comic/cartoon character (that is if you have not lived under a rock or have been brought up in a controlled environment free from the telly at least). You know, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Bioman, Voltes V, Sailormoon, Justice League, etc. do they ring a bell?

I had my Komikero.com comic collaboration signed by Gerry Alanguilan, Jonas Diego, etc. and met Pol Medina, Jr. and the people behind Bayan Knights too!

I now also happily own a “StripperElla” (episode 1-13) cd from the CSCentral booth, of which is a favorite not because Pam Anderson is the voice behind her, its just that  Stan Lee rocks!

I will surely attend the Komikon (http://komikon.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html slated) for August this year at SM Megatrade Hall and hopefully I can bring home a haul of dvds of my some of my favorites albeit not that popular with some but hey, I like them: Mazinger Z, Wacky Racers, Wonder Woman, Haruhi Bunny, Dungeons and Dragons, Heavy Metal, Wizards, Vampire Hunter D, Street Fighter (Chun Li’s the best!), Bioman..well, a lot more so hope extra cash will be on hand for an early Christmas treat for me.

Godbless and Cheers!

Soapdish..My Favorite Comedy Flick

Soapdish (Comedy, 1991)

This film centers on a scandal-ridden soap opera (telenovela if you wish), entitled “The Sun Also Sets”. This flick has cured most of my boring  insomniac nights for more than five years now.

What keeps me viewing it is not just for its Golden Globe Nomination or the stellar cast and their first few “glittering ” moments in Hollywood albeit cameo roles, but it surely mirrors what “soaps” and their actors go through in general.

What do I mean? Well, the suffering storylines (lovers separated, kids swapped, a tragic death, someone is afflicted with amnesia, without knowing one is the parent of another, reapperance of “presumed dead” casts, “beautiful homeless people”, etc.) name it its all there even before the show has jumped the shark..its a given and time-tested formula!

The roster of celebrities in this flick are: Sally Field, Whoopi Goldberg, Kevin Kline, Robert Downet, Jr., Cathy Moriarty, Teri Hatcher, Elisabeth Shue and Kathy Najimi.

So, even if just for LOLs why not grab a copy at your favorite flick shop, don’t forget the chips and soda..go home and plop on a comfy sofa, chair, bed (whatever!) and enjoy! *oh yeah, best viewed with family and friends too!*

*P.S.

Anyone who can give me a copy of its soundtrack..please do reply here..tnxies! =]

Cheers! =]

“Gabay Para Kay Nanay” by Pampers

pampers_ppi_ttl_img1

Pampers hosted “Gabay Para Kay Nanay” at the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Medical Center in Sta. Cruz, Manila with a series of short lectures from the Pampers Parenting Institute (PPI) and Maternal and Child Nurses Association of the Phils. (MCNAP). As a bonus they also donated chord-clamps, baby tags ans electronic breast pumps for 200 moms who donated breast milk to Fabella Hospital.
Dra. Susan Echiverii of PPI advised to avoid using walkers because it actually hampers a child’s ability to develop motor skills. It is also important to give babies safe and age-appropriate toys to stimulate their brain’s development and develop motor skills. Skin-to-skin contact is also greatly encouraged (carrying and cuddling) not only with the mom but also with the dad.

MCNAP’s Col. Estelita Galutera discussed that breastfeeding starts right after delivery to six months up to two years. Skincare was also discussed using specifically designed products for babies or if nt available, dilute adult products in water and do not apply directly to the skin.

New Born Screening (NBS) is emphasized by MCNAP because it can prevent severe mental retardation, physical disabilities (congenital metabolic disorder like congenital hypothyroidism or congenital adrenal hyperplasia) or even death.

newbornscreening_31

Newborn Screening (NBS) is done using the heel prick method; a few drops of blood are taken from the baby’s heel and blotted on a special absorbent filter card. The blood is dried for four hours and sent to the Newborm Screening Laboratory (UP PGH); ideally done within 48 to 72 hours after birth.

I do hope, wish and pray that these kinds of advocacies be given their needed support because every baby is a blessing and parent or not, we can make a difference to help them develop properly and reduce the rate of pediatric disorders/disease. I salute Dr. Ruben Flores, Director of Fabella Hospital, experts from PPI and MCNAP and Ms. Anama Dimapilis, Brand PR Manager for Pampers for their longtime partnership and unwavering campaign.

Cheers! =]

Angels and Demons The Premiere

angels_and_demons_xlg

The much-awaited “Angels and Demons” screen adaptation will be shown on May 15, 2009 (Friday). Definitely the chance to watch it (thank you to TV5 and Sony Pictures) on the big screen with my family is in order for we are always curious about religiosity interpretations and of course are also bookworms since birth I guess.

Though the “Da Vinci Code” movie adaptation is not at par with the book (but then again ’tis not fair to compare), I would like to see how this particular book will be treated because it is subject to different interpretations. Nevertheless a compelling must-read depicted on film is also a must-see. I will post my experience with this flick during the weekend. So ’til then see you at the movies and Cheers! =]
