I was hyped at the beginning with the flick’s reference to these: Mayanism, Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, 2012 phenomenon, solar flare , wonky Earth’s core begins heating up, California falling into the Pacific Ocean, the eruption of the Yellowstone National Park caldera, shifting of the continents by crustal displacement, Megatsunami..almost everything catastrophic ever predicted except the Second Coming (though the effects are really awesome!) and two words sums up my experience: “Anti-climactic” and too “Hollywood-ish”.
On one end the film centers around the “chosen” cast of characters unbelievably invulnerable to any pain or if I may say, bad luck..as they hurdle different catastrophes racing towards the Tibetan Himalayan Mountains. On the other end are the scientists and governments of the world some of whom are attempting to save(?) as many lives as they can before the disasters ensue (if you paid $xxx,xxx,xxx.. in advance).
No more spoilers..but if you want to be entertained if the morbid and b-movie side of you itches, then go ahead and watch this flick. DO NOT watch it with your “critic” cap on nor your “biblical/scholarly” cap on. Just sit, relax and enjoy the effects (of a combo flick of independence day, war of the worlds, titanic, etc. sorry can’t help it!)
