Asia’s Titanic the first Pinoy documentary on National Geographic by Direk Yam Laranas
Aug. 18, 2009 at Rockwell Cinema1 (6pm)

After a feeding program at our house clinic in cooperation with Gawad Kalinga and fellow volunteers, I rushed to Rockwell excited to watch the premiere screening of “Asia’s Titanic”. After the screening all ll I can say is that award-winning Filipino director Yam Laranas was very fortunate to have been tapped by The National Geographic to recreate the tragic MV Doña Paz collision with an oil tanker more than a decade ago.
This is the first documentary produced by National Geographic Channel in collaboration with a Philippine film production under the NGCI-EDB Development Fund. “Asia’s Titanic,” which tells of the tragic sinking of MV Doña Paz just few days before Christmas of 1987, will premiere on NGC (Sky Cable Channel 41) on 25 August 2009, Tuesday, at 9 p.m.

I will surely watch it again with my family and say a prayer for those who have experienced a maritime tragedy. Am hoping that the proper authorities will watch and take heed..preventing such mishaps to ever happen again.
Cheers and Godbless! =]

Aug 25, 09 at 02:34Hi Sire.
If I remember correctly, this tragedy was far bigger than the Titanic in terms of number of fatalities. Essentially 2 ships kasi diba? Tragic talaga.
The worst part of it is, tragedies like this have not stopped in the Philippines – dami pa rin underqualified boatmen, uninspected ships and boats, tsk tsk tsk…
