DepEd: Unveils school calendar for 2012-2013

School year 2012-2013 for public elementary and secondary schools nationwide starts on a Monday, June 4, 2012 and ends on a Friday, March 22, 2013 comprising 200 school days, 180 days of which are non-negotiable student-teacher contact time.

This was announced by Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC as DepEd comes out with a new school calendar that synchronizes all events and teaching-learning activities to optimize the use of the prescribed 200 school days. Continue Reading »

Sa ating mahal na Pangulo, Benigno S.Aquino III, sa ating mga iginagalang na Mambabatas sa Senado at Kongreso, sa mga piling panauhin at kaakibat sa repormang pang-edukasyon, at lalo’t higit sa aking mga boss sa Kagawaran—ang aming mga guro at mag-aaral: isang mataimtim na pagbati sa araw na ito.

Noong ika-5 ng Oktubre 2010, Pandaigdigang Araw ng mga Guro, hindi pa man nakakaisang-daang araw ang ating Administrasyong Aquino, inilahad na natin ang planong repormang pangedukasyon— ang enhanced K to 12 program. Dito natin inihayag ang ating pangarap na tuluyan na nga nating mabago ang sistema ng edukasyon sa Pilipinas. Ngayon, matapos ang mahigit isa’t kalahating taon ng masusing pagaaral at konsultasyon, ikinararangal kong ibahagi sa inyo, mahal na Pangulo, at sa ating mga kababayan ang bunga ng panatang ito.

Layunin ng K to 12 program ang curricular reform at innovation. Ang alinmang pagbabago sa curriculum ay  dapat nakatuon sa dalawang mahahalagang bahagi: ang nilalaman ng curriculum at ang paghahanda ng mga guro. Continue Reading »

DepEd: Public school teachers hone skills in teaching Spanish

Some 113 public school teachers will go through a summer training course to hone diverse skills in learning and teaching Spanish as a second language under the Department of Education’s Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL).

Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC said the training is part of DepEd’s continuing thrust to equip its teaching force with additional knowledge to impart to their students. “I think it is important to teach one of the world’s more widely-spoken languages to our students as part of their preparation for the global arena,” Luistro added. DepEd: Regions step up against NCR for 2012 Palarong Pambansa

With less a week left before the Palaro, the teams are exposed to rigorous trainings and preparations for different sports events. Thus, the competition heats up as the regions are set to snatch the over-all championship title from the National Capital Region (NCR).

DepEd: Schools that train athletes get P500K subsidy each

The Department of Education has earmarked P8.5 million as subsidy to 17 regional schools that offer a special program in sports to fully harness the athletic prowess of students in selected public high schools. Each school is to receive P500,000 as training subsidy.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro said the subsidy will enable the schools to effectively deliver services to student athletes who will one day stand out in national and international competitions. “There is cost in developing world-class athletes and the schools are the natural breeding ground of grassroots talents,” added Luistro.
