Extraordinary Measures (2010): Don’t hope for a miracle. Make one.

extraordinary measures

I must admit at first I thought this was an action flick because of the poster and the title. Haven’t given it much thought since the past few weeks were filled with 3D wonders. A few minutes into the flick, teary-eyed I wondered why there wasn’t that much “noise” about it and hopes a lot of people will watch it..you won’t regret it!

Harrison Ford is a brilliant biochemist with a hypothetical theory on how to treat Pompe’s disease (glycogen storage disease type II/acid maltase deficiency or simply put, the build-up of glycogen causes progressive muscle weakness (myopathy) throughout the body and affects various body tissues, particularly in the heart, skeletal muscles, liver and nervous system).

Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell (The Crowleys) are parents of two children afflicted with Pompe’s disease. A near death attack prodded the father (Fraser), to take extreme measures to find a cure.

Extraordinary Measures (CBS Films) is not just a medical drama movie because the treatment is realistic and the medical scenes are not that technical. It is based on a true story (from the Geeta Anand book “The Cure”) and for that I wish Tom Vaughan (director)could have shown not just the caring/accepting side of the parents, but also the raw emotions of frustrations and/or disappointments in dealing with the disease.

What I stated are not spoilers because there’s definitely a lot more. Rated PG.

Alice In Wonderland 2010

Basically, Alice In Wonderland 2010 is about Alice’s return (after 13 years) and her destiny to slay the Jabberwockee in order to free the people of Wonderland from the Red Queen.

As expected the 3D effects are a visual treat especially from a Director such as Tim Burton. His take on this fantasy story veered away from the original in the sense that it did not bear a childish plot so to speak, or it is an attempt at a continuation at the very least. I’d say its a PG13 flick for kids might get startled or worse have nightmares with certain characters and scenes plus, the plot and various symbolism might confuse them. Continue Reading »

Birthday Wishes Do Come True: Alice In Wonderland premiere tickets SM Cinemas thank you!

When my sister and I  saw the Alice In Wonderland poster we wished we could watch the premiere for her birthday (Feb. 27). Its been a year since she suffered a stroke and it was a miracle she recovered very well. We have been through a lot  since our parents left us so I think that speaks for how protective we are of each other. We bond as much as we can together with our mafia-esque family and sometimes she accompanies me to events, movie reviews, etc. Well wishes do come true and this one came straight from SM Cinemas via e-mail (dated Feb. 22)!

We actually got hold of these tickets on her birthday at SM Cinemas Alice In Wonderland Pocket Event ..but wait there’s more. We were meaning to watch Avatar on IMAX this time when Ms. Sharon led us to a special Avatar screening right after she handed our Alice In Wonderland tickets. Imagine the double surprise and pure joy!
