Filipino-Canadian film critic Alexis Tioseco, 29, and his girlfriend Nika Bohinc were killed by robbers who broke into their Quezon City home late night Tuesday.
GMA News reported that Tioseco and partner Nika Bohinc, a Slovenian film journalist, were shot several times by three unidentified men who robbed the victim’s home at 39 Times St., Brgy. West Triangle past 10 p.m. Tuesday. The report quoted police investigators as saying that the incident could be an inside job because the couple’s new helper, identified only as Criselda, helped the suspects enter the house. Quezon City policemen are now hunting down a suspect, thevictims’ household helper identified only as Criselda. Another household helper, Magdalena Patpat, said Criselda let 3 gunmen enter the couple’s home on Time Street, Barangay West Triangle, around 10 pm. Patpat told police investigators that the gunmen hog-tied and covered her mouth with a cloth while clearing the couples’ home of valuables. One of the gunmen shot the couple as they entered their home, police said. Village official Noel Lopez said it was the driver of the couple’s neighbor who rushed to the barangay hall to report the shooting incident around 11:00 pm.

Alexis Tioseco was a faculty member of the arts department of the University of Asia and the Pacific, was a regular contributor for men’s magazine UNO and had written for top newspapers including the Philippine Daily Inquirer and the Philippine Star. The founding editor of Criticine.com, a film critique site on Southeast Asian Cinema, was also a contributor for foreign publications such as Screen International, Ekra, Panic, Senses of Cinema.com, Osian’s Cinema.com and catalogues of the Torino and Pesaro International Film Festivals.

Nika Bohinc
Nika Bohinc was a freelance film journalist who lived between Slovenia and Manila, editor-in-chief of Ekran film magazine and a known personality in Slovenia’s film industry.
