K-POP Meets P-POP: BEAST Live in Manila

Last June 16 – 19, 2010 the hottest 6-member boy group, collectively known as BEAST came over to Manila and shocked with their hits, their looks and their edgy dance moves during their mall signing session and major concert held together with Boys Over Flowers star and RC Cola endorser, Kim Hyun Joong.
Doo Joon, Yo Seop, Hyun Seung, Gi Kwang, Jun Hyung and Dong Woon individually had their own sad stories to tell with their journey to K-pop fame. Yet, it was their collaboration with one another that paved the way for them to finally reach their dreams. It was not an easy road as each of them experienced disappointment, but that did not stop them from pursuing their dreams.
BEAST member Doo Joon failed to remain until the end on Mnet’s reality program ‘Hot Blood.’ The other members from that time are currently performing as 2PM and 2AM.
Hyung Seung initially joined a survival program where he was eliminated from. After his elimination from the survival show, he tried out debuting with another K-pop boy group, Big Bang but in the end, he was also eliminated.
Gikwang on the other hand tried a solo career where he went by his moniker, AJ, but he too only got mediocre success. Although, it was during his solo stint that he was able to front for multi-awarded artist Lady Gaga during her concert in Korea.
The other members, Yo Seop, Jun Hyung, and Dong Woon during that time trained for four to five years with JYP Entertainment, the same group behind the Wonder Girls.
Despite their unfortunate experiences, the group manages to see the brighter side of things. In an interview, they fondly stated, “Maybe it’s because we all have at least one painful experience, but we consider each other a bit pathetic. They say misery loves company.”
With their long period of waiting to debut, they finally got the chance to perform on stage. “We always thought we would be satisfied and happy after our debut, and our debut day would become the best day of our lives, but in reality, after we came down from the stage, we still felt like we were missing something. The youngest, Dong Woon even cried really hard…with every day that passes, performing on stage gradually becomes more and more fun. Everything is fascinating and fun, and we feel like we’ve gained enough confidence to enjoy performing.” states BEAST who at present, has already won major awards in Korea and is also warmly recognized here in the Philippines by their fans.
