Say Chiz (Escudero that is!)
Aug. 13, 2009 (6pm)

Back in 2004 (pre-Law school), after a showbiz/movie welfare foundation I immediately worked for a political party gearing up for the presidential elections. Based on those jobs can dare say, a career in politics much like show business is not an easy ride.
Fascinating actually, I wonder how they (a politician, an actor, filmmaker, etc.) can possibly handle such a public life and have at least a bit of a private life. A part of my blog (profiles) is dedicated to people whom I had the chance to chat with.
Senator Chiz Escudero is one of those politicians whose career I have followed even on the web for quite some time now. So, the chance to actually ask him about anything under the sun (except politics) was simply hard to pass!
Quite surprising my first question didn’t need a follow-up because the conversation just rolled smoothly:
“What’s the first thing you do when you get home?
- “I put down my stuff, freshen up and then greet my wife and kids.”
“What’s your favorite flick/s?”
- “The American President (Michael Douglas, Annette Bening and Martin Sheen 1995), An Affair To Remember (Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr 1957), Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford, except the 2008 fourth installment of its franchise)”
“If given the chance to be a superhero whom would be your choice?”
- “I’d rather be Ding (Darna’s sidekick..a local fictional character and superheroine created by Filipino komiks legend Mars Ravelo), Superman (x-ray vision) but as a child I liked Green Lantern’s costume.”
“Your thoughts on the uncanny similarity between you and Bamboo (a local band’s vocalist Francisco “Bamboo” Mañalac )”
- “At first I thought people were calling me bamboo because of its characteristic of being “hollow” then I found out there was really a band with a vocalist named Bamboo..will have the chance to meet him on my birthday.”
“Favorite junk food/s?”
- “M and M’s, Chippy, Nestle Crunch and..Chiz Curls*”
“If an advocacy asked you to donate food what will it be?”
- “I’d say Jolibee (a local fastfood that has beaten McDonald’s here in the Philippines) or KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken)”
“Weirdest/strangest food/dish you had?”
- “Crocodile Sisig (Philippine dish usually made from parts of pig’s or in this case crocodile’s head, liver and usually seasoned with kalamansi and chili peppers. ) and Soup No. 5”
“Favorite dish?”
- “My wife’s Callos ( Spanish, tripe with chickpeas)
and Dinuguang Manok”
“Do you have a “kikay/vanity” kit or ritual?”
- “I take the usual shower..and some oil control”
“Last book you read..had an impact on you?”
- “Dinner with a Perfect Strangerby David Gregory”
“Music genre and chillax activities?”
- “80’s music, flipping through cable news channels, playing gameboy..when in Sorsogon hang out with family and friends”
*Okay, probably now you might say that this “interview” so to speak is irrelevant or boring to say the least..well scroll up, twas not my intention to have a political interview. I wanted to know the man..as he put it, the Regular and Average Chiz.

Cheers and Godbless! =]
